2022 John Deere Gator: New John Deere Gator Full-Size Review and Specs

Posted on

2022 John Deere Gator There is a new special edition of John Deere Gator UTV in town, and it is not an Honorary Edition. Instead, it is the top Gator, premium Gator, and Gator cream plant.

It is embellished, resulting in the most feature-packed and automotive-inspired iteration of John Deere’s hardworking and task-oriented lineup.

It’s called the 2022 John Deere Gator XUV835R Signature Edition Gator Utility Task Vehicle (UTV), and its 22.8-hp three-cylinder diesel counterpart is the XUV865R Signature Edition.

The XUV835R petrol 54 hp three-cylinder 54 hp is in the category of John Deere’s full-size three-passenger XUV Crossover, the segment “built to work like a truck where it is not can be done truck.”

How much does this crossover utility vehicle cost? Many. You can get an entry-level Gator for a third, and even one of them is not very cheap. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

What drives the Signature Edition above and beyond the XUV835R? It’s all about leather seats, touch screen infotainment systems, high-end audio systems, rear cameras, some LEDs, and some brush shields, to name a few a standard feature that stands out.

In addition to the three-passenger split 40/60 genuine leather seats with embroidered John Deere logo, the Signature Edition Gator has leather-wrapped handles. John Deere claims everything is easy to clean up.

A special Signature Edition badge adorns the dashboard, and there is another one on the tailgate. Who would have thought your first leather interior vehicle would be a John Deere?

The factory-installed 6.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system works well with smartphones—well, except for the fact that there’s no Apple CarPlay—that allows Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

And of course, there is a SiriusXM satellite radio for optimal entertainment during long days. There is a USB port under the radio.

How does that satellite radio sound? Good enough thanks to the seven-speaker sound system tuned by Harmon.

There are two speakers on the headliner, two on the dashboard, two tweeters on the A-pillar, and a subwoofer under the seat. It’s all waterproof.

Rear-facing camera mounted to the cargo box and activated at any time with the press of a button, is displayed on the infotainment screen and makes hitchhiking and rear-oriented tasks others have become easier.

The John Deere Gator Signature Series comes standard with Bumper Pro Brushguard to protect the front end. Push and crash with confidence thanks to its rubber bumper, and worry less about the radiator thanks to the center protective screen.

The premium Signature Series UTV also comes with a rear protection package consisting of a bumper, fender guard, and fender flare.

Some miscellaneous features complement the Signature Series. Roof-mounted LED driving lights at the front of the cabin roof add an extra layer of light on dark mornings and nights.

The sliding rear window— a feature that’s very truck-like—allows airflow and access to cargo beds.

Predator 27×9.00R14 (front) and 27×11.00R14 (rear) all-terrain radial tires mounted on sweet yellow spoke alloy wheels complete the look. The cargo box is equipped with a spray liner, lamps, and a power lift.

Don’t worry—we didn’t forget. Hold your dozer, this may hurt. The PETROL XUV835R Signature Edition starts at $36,449 and the diesel XUV865R Signature Edition at $37,699.

For that kind of money, you can get a street-legal 4×4 truck—one that even has power windows and heated seats.

But that’s not the point; the larger size and legality of the streets also have their drawbacks. And it’s not John Deere.

John Deere Gator 835r Reviews

John Deere 835r Reviews A more practical and more maneuverable engine for all the work that doesn’t fit a pickup truck. This is a flagship full-size model that sits atop the Gator John Deere side-by-side ATV range, or rather: the UTV (for Utility Duty Vehicles).

2022 John Deere Gator

The difference is important because the type of side-by-side market is divided into those designed for work, and those that try to be a fun Ford Raptor mini. machine.

The Gator is largely the first, and the lineup opens at the smaller end with the Working Series, available in rear drive, four-wheel drive, and six wheels with a payload capacity limit of 1,000 pounds and a choice of fuel, diesel, or electric power, with base prices ranging from $7,899-$13,299.

Next up is the Mid-Size XUV Crossover line, with a standard 4WD and two wheelbases for carrying two or four passengers and 500 pounds of cargo, with The base price starts from $9,599-$14,999.

Deere’s Full-Size XUV Crossover like our test vehicles is referred to as “made to work like a truck where a truck can’t,” and boasts 2,000-pound towing capacity, low-range gearing, and locking differentials, with weather protection and climate control available.

The base price starts at $14,699 and rises to $27,399 with diesel power.

Controls Like Cars

John Deere doesn’t usually lend it side by side to the automotive press, but several improvements for 2021 aim to make the Gator much more like a car so it suddenly makes sense to do so.

This includes improved transmission control with the addition of a “parking” position, an enhanced digital dashboard display, easier gearshifts, and electric power steering.

Two electric switch switches now activate the 4WD and rear differential locks, and xuv 2021 is available with more than 100 enhancements, including sprayers, snow blades, and cranes which are adapted to attack a variety of jobs.

I took the timing of this bidding as fate because I had just completed some big projects around my place in Lake Huron, so I asked for one that was minimally equipped with a winch and an electric drain box.

54 Hp, 47 Lb-Ft, And CVT

Power comes from the john deere 812-cc (0.8-liter) DOHC 12-valve three-cylinder engine mounted in the middle. The centrifugal clutch makes the object move, after which the CVT belt automatically adjusts its effective gear ratio to take into account heavy loads, thick mud, steep hills, etc.

And if the load or slope proves to be too much for a standard span—as it happens when I try to pull a 40-foot Pinetop first into a grassy field with all its branches still attached—with a low range that involves doubling enough torque to make the XUV run and park the tree in a place that I want.

There is no center differential, and as mentioned, the rear is lockable; in front, there is an auto-locking differential to maximize the abundant traction awarded by the larger, prominent Maxxis Bighorn tires that came with our test vehicles’

Carlike Suspension

The Gator matches the steel control arm, coil-over shock unit, and disc brakes at all four corners, with an anti-roll bar at the rear and strong half-axle boot protection at the front. A full 7.9-inch suspension ride is provided to absorb the off-road.

And the power steering isolates the driver from the kickback and gives three easy laps from the lock to the lock when doing the U-turn without leaving the road surface on most of the two roads’ paths.

How Fast Is the XUV835R?

I slapped our Vbox on the roof and started doing some testing both on the gravel and on the pavement. Acceleration proved to be a little faster on the pavement, with the best record in four-wheel drive.

The top speed of the XUV835R was listed as 45 mph but our speed was pulled up to 53 mph. It accelerates to 50 mph in 16.8 seconds on the way to 22.7 seconds 52.2-mph a quarter mile.

It was slower than almost any other vehicle we had tested, but easily sucked up the 2005 Gem e4 environmental electric vehicle where we recorded a speed of 40.1 seconds, 23.6 mph a more relaxed quarter mile.

What About Stopping And Turning Around?

The braking distance of 50 mph is much shorter on gravel—87 feet compared to 127 feet on the pavement—because as we’ve known for a long time, it helps to accumulate dirt in front tires (anti-lock braking is not offered).

We only circulated the gravel sarad because there was no large, empty, paved land near my lake place. On this surface, we measured 0.58 g of lateral grip in the 4WD model with the differential locked.

Driving in a circle is a little more fun and drifting in the rear drive with the difference locked, but that mode trims about 0.03 g of the result.

Please note that here again, that Gem e4—the only other vehicle we can legitimately compare to the XUV835R—records a miserable 0.35 g.

Like Carlike In Some Ways, Not In Others…

I’m sure that a shifter like a car with a parking position is a godsend for a lot of people, but we expect it to be oriented with a right-to-top side. Like, Park below and you shift to R, N, H, and Low above.

As a result, I often move the two-level shifter in the wrong direction when thinking I’m going backward or vice versa. The plastic lining the shift gates also began to change color due to wear and tear in just 20 miles of use.

The turn signal is a left/right switch switch switch without self-cancellation, but this is acceptable as it is rare for a Gator to find itself signaling in traffic automotive.

The digital measuring cluster is neat, except that the tachometer and speedometer have no demarcation.

Both display digital readouts in the middle of the graphics stroke, but you don’t know what the redline value is until you reach it (about 4,650 rpm, but Gator dares to accelerate far beyond that).

The ignition is not omnidirectional; You need to remember in which direction it goes into the ignition cylinder and the door. By the way, it’s the only way to lock and unlock the door—there’s no button or knob lock inside (so if you lock the door cylinder, then drive the vehicle, then lock the key inside, the clothes chain will be of no use).

Cool Gator Features

The windshield can be fully opened with gas support that holds it horizontally, or it can be opened a few inches at the bottom to allow wind to enter while driving—just like the one you used to do with a Model A Ford.

However, you need to lower the side windows so that the wind is gentle, as the cabin is well sealed and tight (so tight that you will probably slam back the door when all windows are closed).

Front and rear hitch receivers: Sometimes while exploring the trail, you may find yourself blocked by obstacles, as happened to me with fallen trees.

Let’s just say it’s not so big that you may need a low distance to relent (just move low to drive forward), just move the trailer forward, wrap your tow rope around the tree, and turn it over.

The 4,500-pound Warn winch ($881 option) comes with a remote control connected to the glovebox and proves to be more than just a chore to take everything I attached to it. Oh, and Park’s position proved to be enough to hold the XUV835R in place—we never missed the optional parking brake.

The $874 electric box lifting system makes the job of quickly loading and unloading heavy water pressure tanks, not to mention a lot of wood chips and dirt.

And while I’m sure one is not recommended to “spray” the interior, every cupholder, cubby, and bin in the interior has a sinkhole, as does the deep well under the passenger seat which doubles as a refrigerator.

Oh, and like the coolest new pickup truck, the Gator tailgate includes a benchmark inch demarcation for measuring inland cuts.

What is John Deere Gator’s Rival XUV835R?

About the next closest competitor seems to be Bombardier’s Can Am Defender Limited, which starts at $25,599.

It also offers a fully climate-controlled “season proof” cabin and offers a sturdy 82-hp, 69-lb-ft Rotax V-twin engine with a rating to draw 2,500 pounds (3,000 in a 6×6 configuration), but it lacks the width of the Gator and the depth of the duty-specific factory accessories.

Arctic Cat Prowler Pro offers full doors and windshields and roughly matches Deere’s engine specifications, but does not offer a full HVAC. Most of the other Gator XUV835R competitors—including the Honda Talon 1000 lineup, the Polaris General XP 1000, and Yamaha’s EPS Viking—don’t have a closed cabin option, let alone a temperature control.

Should You Buy John Deere Gator XUV835R?

If you don’t want to drag your kids around the yard behind the Beetle, and you face a lot of towing and hauling needs around your property in places that are not easily accessible to a traditional pickup truck, perhaps a dedicated side-by-side UTV makes sense.

This one certainly has a lot to recommend. For my personal use case, I would be better off with a narrower Work Series model. I was able to go down some of the lanes I lit at the front of the property.

I closed my property in the winter, so an open taxi is suitable for me. With a winch, a power box lift, and a front brush guard, such an HPX615E Gator will be priced in the mid-$ 13,000 range.

John Deere Gator Reviews 2021

2021 John Deere Xuv590m Review The utility vehicle market has exploded in recent years. While the most popular segment seems to be a side-by-side sports and performance market, utility vehicles are the real heart of the market.

2022 John Deere Gator

These vehicles are used daily to transport goods and perform tasks on farms, farms, and residences throughout the country. Owners need vehicles that are reliable, durable, and easy to use; and that’s why many turn to Gators by John Deere.

For the 2021 model year, John Deere has updated the Gator line of utility vehicles to include easier-to-use controls and more automotive-like features. When the owners jump behind the wheel of the Gator 2021, the first thing they will notice is the new instrument cluster.

The new cluster provides more information at a glance and will include gear position, fuel level, differential locks, specific models, rpm, and interval readings servicing.

Also updated is the transmission shift lever, now with an integrated Parking position and a better gearshift pattern. This update makes operation easier and the automotive feel mentioned above.

The updated model also features an instant four-wheel drive, which is activated via a switch mounted on the dashboard. The power steering system has also been updated on the Gator XUV M and R models to provide smoother steering and better control on all types of terrain.

“For 2021, we looked at our Gator lineup and made improvements to transmission control, digital display, gear position, and power steering,” said Mark Davey, John Deere’s marketing manager.

“Customers will find that our updated units are easier to move and control, provide four-wheel drive and differential locks instantly, and provide more a lot of information on the dashboard.”

The John Deere Gator utility vehicle is extremely versatile, with over 100 attachments available. These include snow plows, cranes, sprayers, roofs, windshields, lights, and more.

The Gators come in Working Series, Medium XUV, Full-Size XUV, and High-Performance trim. They can carry more than 500 pounds and pull up to 2,000 pounds.

The gator can carry two or four people, can be equipped with two or four-wheel drive, and has six tires.

While it’s not the ultra-high-performance UTV we’re used to recreate, we’re excited about this handy update for 2021 and can’t wait to get behind the wheel of John Deere Gator’s John Deere new and improved!
