John Deere 4044M Key Features
The John Deere 4044M Compact Multi-Purpose Tractor is a versatile and reliable machine designed for a variety of tasks on farms, plantations, and properties. This tractor is equipped with several key features that make it a popular choice among landowners and operators. The following are some essential features of the John Deere 4044M:
- Powerful Engine: The 4044M is equipped with a powerful diesel engine that produces plenty of power and torque, ensuring the tractor can easily handle a variety of tasks.
- Hydrostatic Transmission: The hydrostatic transmission provides smooth and precise control, making it easy to maneuver and operate, even for beginners.

12/12 PowrReverser Transmission
Deere offers a 12/12 PowrReverser transmission on all 4M and 4R Tractors, so operators don’t have to use a clutch to shift gears.
This technology provides hydraulically shifted forward-reverse capability with a single lever located on the left side of the instrument console, making the loader’s job easier.
Ease of Use for the 4044M Operator Station
New operators will realize how easy it is to get in and out of the John Deere 4044M operator station. The brake pedal and operator controls are carefully positioned to provide a clean, level platform, allowing ample legroom.
The hood and fenders are made of impact-resistant polymer material, eliminating the possibility of rust and damage that usually occurs with metal hoods or fenders. Since these tractors often work on sunny days, they are painted with an automotive paint-like finish that has excellent sun resistance.
However, comfort does not come at the expense of safety. An operator presence system ensures the operator is in the tractor seat before the tractor can be started, and a rollover protection structure (ROPS) is designed to keep the driver safe in the event of an accident.
iMatch Quick Connect
Multi-purpose tractors stand out from the crowd with their mounting capabilities. However, installing this tool can be a challenge. John Deere solves this problem with the iMatch Quick-Hitch, which provides easy installation and a guaranteed fit for all Category 1 tools.
Easy Access & Serviceability for 4044M
Performing routine maintenance and service is critical to the equipment’s overall health. The John Deere 4044M offers easy access to essential points of service with a removable cover, side panels, and an improved hood design.
All 4044M tractors are equipped with self-diagnostic capabilities and are compatible with the Service ADVISOR system.
The John Deere 4044M’s reliable and economical power, along with its long list of standard features, make it an excellent choice for large property owners who want to get work done in comfort.
John Deere 4044m Problems from Another Source
Modern John Deere tractors are equipped with dozens of sensors and computers, many of which cannot be serviced by their owners because of the stupid licensing agreements that John Deere forces on its customers. Since farmers need more time or money to waste on technician visits, some are taking matters into their own hands with Eastern European software hacks, Motherboard reports from Vice.
This all goes back to John Deere’s refusal to provide diagnostic and service information to owners, instead forcing them to sign licensing agreements that essentially require them to have an “authorized” John Deere representative come to their farm to look at the problem. Motherboard spoke with farmer Kevin Kenney, who described what a typical John Deere tractor service is like saying:
You want to replace the transmission, and you take it to an independent mechanic—he can install a new transmission, but the tractor can’t leave the shop. Deere charges $230 plus $130 per hour, so a technician must come in and install a connector into their USB port to authorize the part.
This sounds like a nightmare because if you own any vehicle, you should have the right to have it repaired. In fact, it is one of the central tenets of the Right to Repair movement. And John Deere’s statement to Motherboard agrees, saying:
When a customer purchases John Deere equipment, he owns it. As the owner, he can maintain and repair the equipment. Customers also have the ability, through operator and service manuals and other resources, to enable operational, maintenance, service, CE, and diagnostic activities to repair and maintain equipment.
However, the executive director of Repair.org told the news site that he thought the statement was “nonsense,” and went on to say:
[John Deere requires] buyers to accept an End User License Agreement that prohibits all activities they say they allow in their statements…Deere is a monopolist and has systematically usurped the role of equipment owner despite having been paid fairly and in full for the equipment.
So, there’s clearly a bit of drama involved in maintaining and repairing modern John Deere equipment. So much so, says Motherboard, that there is a network of farmers who—in response to John Deere’s lock on the ECU reading function—have attempted to obtain “hack” software from countries in eastern Europe such as Poland and Ukraine.
The software, the site says, is only available on “invitation-only paid online forums,” and allows farmers to connect the ECU to a laptop, calibrate various engine parameters, diagnose faulty components, change speed limits, and more.

John Deere 4044m Problems
Mentioning this problem in the forum can also be the primary reference for where this frequently occurring problem can be anticipated.
bigweights: I have a John Deere 4044M that I bought new in 2017. Five months ago, after only 400 hours, both rear axle seals started leaking. The dealer said there are some special tools required to replace the seal, but there are only a few in the entire country. It’s been 5 months since I paid installments through John Deere for a machine that I couldn’t use, sell, or trade in. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What kind of manufacturer produces a product and then doesn’t have the tools to repair it? I am very disappointed with John Deere.
cc1999: I’m not sure what the difference is between 3R vs. 4R or 4M axles (housing size and bolt pattern are the same, but I’m not sure what’s inside or how they differ). I know the wheel spacers are the same.
By the way, my 2017 3039I had a broken axle sea9. My local dealer took care of it under warranty last year, and it was no big deal.

It looks extraordinary.
Right now, with all this covid crap messing up manufacturing around the world, I can see a parts supply issue, but there are only 4 of such a unique tool in the country.
That seems very strange to me.
It sounds like the service guy is pulling something out of his…. to tell you because he doesn’t have an honest answer.
Backacres: I was having an unrelated problem with my 4044R, and I went to the dealer where I purchased the tractor. They have changed hands and now have 21 stores. The parts sellers were unable to help me in my search to find a suitable replacement part. I have a hard time dealing with them. Finally, I went to an independent JD dealer an hour ago, and they were able to help me with the problem in detail. I posted my problem on this forum, Rum, and it was removed within a day (by JD police) after many comments about how the larger dealers no longer had customer service. My advice to you is to check out another dealer, preferably an independent dealer, even if it means having to drive out of your way for a while.

John Deere 4044m Problems Detail
I have a 2021 John Deere 4044M tractor. I tried to start it, but an oil pressure sensor error appeared on the dashscreen. I checked the oi,l, and the level is correct.

I have a 2017 John Deere 4044M tractor. I was operating it a few days ago when it made a slight squeak in the left rear, basically over the operator’s shoulder, and then it stopped moving. When I push forward on the pedal, it engages, and the hydraulics work fine. The bucket lifts, the PTO engages, and the 3 points rise and lower. Also, when I put it in N on the speed selector, it moves down the hill, however slowly.
However, when I pushed the leg flap forward, it didn’t move and instead made a beeping sound. The hydraulic pump might have been under a heavy load. My instincts say that maybe the brakes are stuck, but when they lock up, I don’t use the brakes. However, that doesn’t really mean the brakes aren’t stuck. I have a terrible habit of forgetting to release the parking brake, but I didn’t do it this time.
